Preference settings are device-dependent. Unless all your devices are using default settings, any new device scanning with Croptracker needs its preferences updated manually.

Preferences explained:

  • Flashlight

    • This preference should be used when scanning indoors in particular. It is best to scan outdoors for color accuracy. Turning this off will outdoor scanning will save some device battery power.

    • Recommended Setting: On

  • Limit scan size

    • This preference sets the numbers of frames in a scan. For a standard sized apple / orchard bin 70 frames will work well for most people. If you find you are not able to paint the whole scanning surface when scanning, you can increase the frame limit. Increasing the limit will increase the file size and may impact uplaod times.

    • Recommended Setting: 70

  • Minimum scan distance (cm)

    • The default mimimum scan distance is set for apples, citrus and stone fruit and should generally not be adjusted unless directed by Croptracker support staff during onboarding.

    • Recommended Setting: 10.0

  • Maximum scan distance (cm)

    • The default maximum scan distance is set for apples, citrus and stone fruit and should generally not be adjusted unless directed by Croptracker support staff during onboarding.

    • Recommended Setting: 60.0

  • Scan resolution

    • The resolution of the images captured can be adjusted using this preference. The Default setting will work for most users well, but you can increase the image size for higher quality reconstructions. Increasing will increase the file size and may impact uplaod time.

    • Recommended Setting: Default

  • Autofocus

    • The autofocus preference is on by default and should generally not be turned off unless directed by onbaording staff. It allows the camera to focus during the scan as the camera distance changes. It should not be turned off unless directed by Croptracker support staff during onboarding.

    • Recommended Setting: On

  • Delayed start

    • This preference is made for users who need to reach out from a receiving platform for scanning while they are unable to look at the screen. If you are using a ‘selfie stick’ to reach the bin to scan, this preference allow you time to position the device over the bin before the scan starts. It is not necessary for users scanning where they are able to see the screen.

    • Recommended Setting: Unchecked

    • Count down from (seconds)

      • This will adjust the delay between pressing the start button and start of the scan. If using the selfie stick, this should be adjusted for the average length of time it takes to get get in positition over the bin. 4-5 seconds is usually enough.

      • Recommended Setting: 5

  • Perform automatic white balance lock before scan

    • This preference is recommended for users interested in more accurate color capture. It will force the scanner to look around their environment at the start of each scanning session in order to lock in the camera’s white balance to the environment. This is recommended in conjuction with ensuring the bins being scanned are in stable lighting. It is not adviced to scan bins that are in partial shade/sun and is possible, users should scan facing the light source to avoid shadowing the bin.

    • Recommended Setting: Checked

  • Require a lot code before scanning

    • This preference will force users to enter an event Lot code before starting to scan. This is helpful to ensure proper inventory information matching.

    • Recommended Setting: Off

  • Default harvest locations

    • Selecting a location is the first step in setting up an event to scan. This preference will allow users who scan against the same location many times in a row to have the growing area automatically select the last used area. This is not recommended for regular use as it can lead to mistaken inventory associations.

    • Recommended Setting: Prompt
