Harvest Quality Vision Color Sample Scans for Harvest Class Color Set Up
This document contains a how-to step by step guide on how to properly capture color data for setting up Harvest Class Colors in Croptracker’s HQV Advanced Reporting.
You will need the Harvest Quality Vision module to access this feature.
For more information on adding Harvest Quality Vision to your Croptracker account contact support@croptracker.com
This process requires consistent lighting between color class creation and subsequent HQV scans. Meaning, the lighting used for color sample scans needs to be the same as the location where HQV will be used for color analysis.
Please be sure to enable the ‘Auto-White Balance’ preference before performing color class sample scans. Find out how to enable this preference here: https://croptracker.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/DAKB/pages/849936478
Instructions
Determine the variety and color grade(s) you are targetting for harvest class color creation.
Consult with your pack line operators or storage teams to ensure when there will apples in each size class you need to set up available to scan.
Scanning for color grade set up requires a at minimum 150-200 samples of each color grade.
For more accuracy, add an 18% grey color balance card to the scan scene. This card should be visible at the beginning and end of the scan but does not have to appear in every frame. Contact your croptracker support contact for more information on this process.
Note this process does not need to happen all at once - color sample scans can be taken over several days. Many users will take a few minutes at the end of the packline over a few days as graded fruit becomes available
Once you have located packed fruit in the color class you are targetting, create an HQV event with the variety you are scanning selected in the growing area.
Be sure to add the color class name into the Lot Code of the event as shown in the screenshot below.
See https://croptracker.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/DAKB/pages/101449642 for a detailed explanation on creating a Harvest Quality Vision event.
Scan at minimum 150 pieces of color graded fruit into the event. This can be in multiple scans. Some user scan trays of packed fruit and some users scan at the drop before the fruit is packed into trays.
Do not scan any other colored grades or varieties into this event. For example, if you are targetting PG grade Galas, these should be the only apples scanned in this event.
You can optionally gather more data by rotating the same fruit and scanning it again into this same event. This will help Harvest Quality Vision learn how to better identify this color fruit when it is randomly rotated in the harvest bin.
If you are unable to get as many samples of this color as needed during a single scanning session, you can either return to this event and add more scans at a later date, or create a new event with the same lot code and variety combo.
To gather scanned samples of the rest of the colors you have identified, create a new HQV event for the each size class and repeat the process - always ensuring the correct variety is selected in the growing area and the color is specified in the Lot code.
Once a full set of sized scans has been completed - get in touch with Croptracker support@croptracker.com and indicate which events are to be used to generate the set of harvest classes.
